Winter Solstice, also known as Ri Nan Zhi, Dong Jie, Ya Sui, etc., is one of the 24 traditional solar terms in China and an important traditional festival.
The traditional customs of winter solstice vary by region, but mainly include the following aspects:
1. Eating dumplings: In northern China, there is a custom of eating dumplings every winter solstice. It is said that this custom originated in the Eastern Han Dynasty and has been passed down to commemorate the "medical saint" Zhang Zhongjing.
2. Eating rice dumpling: In southern China, there is a custom of eating rice dumpling on the winter solstice. Rice dumpling means reunion and happiness, and symbolizes harmony and happiness between families.
